A Lee County woman is living her worst nightmare tonight. She was backing up her car this morning and accidentally ran over and killed her twenty month old daughter.
Grandma Jan James and close family friend Sandra Hart say they don't want another family to go through what they're going through right now.
"If it saves one kid and their parent looking out the back of the car, or making sure they know where the kids are, it's a good thing that they look because these freak things happen," says Hart.
This morning, they suffered the devastating loss of nearly two year old Meyah James. Jan says - it all started when Meyah's mother got in her car to take a load of trash to the dumpster a few feet away from their home. "The baby ran up before she even knew it," said James.
Tom Bentley with the Quincy Fire Department says oftentimes the drivers in these accidents are parents. "That's what does it a lot of times - not checking - not taking that extra second to walk around the car and make sure that small child is not behind the car before they get in," he said.
Bentley says these accidents often involve very young kids."Most of the information that I was finding was about children under five, so maybe they aren't at the point where they've learned that yet."
Jan James says while her family struggles with this tragedy, she hopes other parents take note of their story."We just want to get it out there that your kids are faster than you think they are," she said.
Funeral arrangements are pending with the Barr Memorial Chapel. Her family has set up a bank account at Fort Madison Bank and Trust to help offset funeral costs.

"Well, we?are?political beings. We live in the world; we live in the world of politics. The inner life isn't separate from that. What is the goal of the creativity one feels ? and wishes to develop and help others to develop? Is it just to make more and more pots or take more and more pictures? Is that what it's all about? I don't think so. I think that as we become more creative, we move toward a concern with social justice and compassion. That's the natural movement. We come, maybe through times of loneliness, toward experiencing the reality of another person. As we create, you might say, we are created. We move toward a deepened awareness of reality. Outwardly, we move toward social justice; inwardly we move toward compassion.

"Consider words: more and more I have come to understand that words are non-verbal. Try asking yourself where the words are before you speak them. I think we make a mistake in trying to restrict a word into something that we can read about in a dictionary. A word is a being. Writing becomes a more intimate and inspired activity when you see you're writing out of your substance, out of the mystery."

MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) ? Kenyan military forces made a pre-dawn beach landing on the last port city held by al-Qaida-linked militants in Somalia in an attack that could see the insurgents lose their last stronghold of value.
Kenyan military spokesmen quickly claimed victory early Friday, saying their troops now control the city of Kismayo.
Col. Cyrus Oguna, the military's top spokesman, said the surprise attack met minimal resistance.
"The operation began five days ago with surgical attacks and gun placement at the jetty and warehouse. In the final operation Kenya's maritime forces and the Somali national army together with land troops with air support entered Kismayo. Because there was that element of surprise there was no resistance," he said.
Residents in Kismayo contacted by The Associated Press said that Kenyan troops had taken control of the port but not the whole city. Mohamed Haji said that helicopters were attacking the town and that al-Shabab fighters were moving toward the front line. Haji said al-Shabab's radio station was still on the air.
"Al-Shabab fighters are on the streets and heading toward the front line in speeding cars. Their radio is still on the air and reporting the war," he said.
African Union troops pushed al-Shabab out of Mogadishu in 2011, ending four years of control of the capital by the fighters. The Ugandan and Burundian troops that make up the bulk of the African Union force in Mogadishu have slowly been taking control of towns outside of Mogadishu.
The expanding control by African Union troops has sent al-Shabab fighters fleeing south toward Kismayo, north to other regions of Somalia and across the Gulf of Aden to Yemen, according to American and African Union officials.
Al-Shabab still holds sway across much of small, poor villages of southern Somalia. But Kismayo is seen as the militants' last stronghold because of the taxes the group is able to charge on goods coming into the port. Al-Shabab lost its major source of financing last year when it was pushed out of Bakara market in Mogadishu, where it also charged taxes.
The march toward Kismayo by the Kenyan forces has been nearly a year in the making. Kenyan troops entered Somalia last October after a series of militant attacks inside Kenya, including multiple kidnappings of Westerners in and around the beach resort town of Lamu. Kenyan forces were bogged down by rain and poor roads but have making slow and steady progress toward Kismayo the last several months.
Sensing the impending battle, more than 10,000 residents have fled Kismayo in the last several weeks. Resident Faduma Abdulle said Friday that she is now leaving the town, too. She said al-Shabab announced false propaganda on its radio station Friday to trick residents into moving toward the invading troops.
"They told residents through their radio to loot a Kenyan ship that washed up on the coast, but instead the residents who rushed there were attacked by helicopters," she said. "Some of them have died but I don't know how many. The situation is tense and many are fleeing. It's a dangerous situation."
Oguna said that al-Shabab has incurred "heavy losses" but that Kenyan forces have not yet had any injuries or deaths. He defended the attack on Kismayo.
"Capture may signal the end of al-Shabab because Kismayo has been the bastion which has financed activities of the al-Shabab in other regions of Somalia," he said. "Al-Shabab has contributed to insecurity in the region through its terror network and influx of small arms and ammunition."

Real estate in the U.S. is finally starting to see some recovery. So you might want to consider companies with strong exposure to the building boom in the regions with the biggest potential.
But some of the best regions might be south of our border.
We?ll take a look at two companies that are in those prime areas in just a moment. For now, let?s ?
Consider the Big U.S. Reaction
To a Small New-Sales Pullback
U.S. homebuilders got hammered this week after the U.S. Commerce Department said new-home sales eased slightly in August.
Even though inventories of unsold new homes are generally trending downward, the latest figures show that new-home sales dipped 0.3%. That translates into an annual rate of 373,000 in August, from an upwardly revised pace of 374,000 a month earlier.
Dip or not, however, new-home sales are still close to their two-year high, as is construction of new single-family homes.
In other words, the news wasn?t bad ? certainly not terrible enough to warrant the pounding the stocks took. But it was less-encouraging than the previous month?s figures.
That?s because the July sales rate, originally reported at an annual rate of 372,000, represented a record 11% surge from the previous month. So the pace in August, even though marginally lower than in July, was actually 28% higher than a year earlier!
But in a market where the air has already started leaking from Ben Bernanke?s money-printing-filled balloon, it?s no surprise that homebuilder stocks are starting to lose their pop. However, don?t expect the homebuilders as a whole to stay down for too long.
Where those stocks go from here depends largely on the regional markets they serve.
Sales Slide Slightly,
But Prices Push Higher!
Regionally, gains in new-home sales of 20% in the Northeast region of the country, 1.8% in the Midwest, and 0.9% in the West were more than enough to offset a nearly 5% decline in the South.
The national median price of a new home was up too: $256,900 in August ? a 17% gain from a year earlier.
Mortgage rates are likely to remain at historically low levels for some time to come as a result of the Federal Reserve?s latest ?quantitative easing? program to purchase billions of dollars of mortgage securities.
This generosity by the Fed is likely to result in an upward momentum in demand for new and existing homes.
Eventually the stocks of U.S. homebuilders should resume their uptrend. My two favorite names are Lennar (LEN) and Toll Brothers (TOL). These have moved 150%-170% in the last 52 weeks.
But I prefer to play the housing sector by investing in markets that have not appreciated as much.
How to Build Your Global
Real Estate Empire
To get the most exposure to homebuilders outside the United States, here are two, U.S. listed, companies you might consider:
Both have been relatively volatile in recent months.
Homex, with a market capitalization of $740 million, has been trending lower since February.
And shares of Gafisa, currently capitalized by the market at $960 million, suffered a 20-month slide beginning in November 2010 that erased close to 90% of their value. However, they?ve doubled since July of this year.
Homex was flat over the last year while Gafisa was down 30%, and I?m watching for the upcoming earnings releases to decide on these two. Check out my Emerging Market Winners service for more ideas like these, plus detailed trading instructions that you can?t get anywhere else!

Landing your dream job takes more than just sending a resume and cover letter to prospective employers. The search is filled with potential for mistakes that can prevent you from simply obtaining an interview. Even if you?re certain you?re putting your best foot forward, you could be overlooking these six common mistakes made by job seekers:
Mistake #1: Failure to network
When it comes to job searching, it often comes down to who you know. Professional networking is a great way to get your foot in the door with a potential employer. Making these connections is the key to getting your resume directly into the hands of the person making hiring decisions. Don?t be shy. Visit career fairs and sign up with professional organizations to get to know other people in the industry you want to work in.
Mistake #2: Skipping the cover letter for online applications
The more information you provide during the application process, the better chance you have of landing an interview. Today, many applications and resumes are sent via online web forms that ask for specific information from job candidates. Even if it?s not strictly required, send a cover letter with every online application you submit. Doing so will not only make an impression, but it will give the hiring manager more insight into your background and put you one step ahead of other applicants. Two instances where sending a cover letter is not advised is when the job description specifically states not to send one, or there is no section in the online application to submit a cover letter. You might think this is a test of the hiring manager and brownie points will go to the applicant that goes above and beyond the requirements, but it isn?t. In fact, sending a cover letter when the job description explicitly says not to could be used to help weed out the candidates that don?t take the time to read the entire job description or lack attention to detail.
Mistake #3: Sending a generic cover letter
First impressions count. Viewed from the perspective of a hiring manager, sending a generic cover letter is lazy. With this shotgun approach, you may as well send your cover letter out to every company in the hospitality industry. Instead of sending a canned and generic letter, tailor the letter to your reader by focusing on the needs of the specific company and the details of the specific position for which you are applying. Do your homework and use your cover letter to demonstrate how your skills and experience could benefit the company. In today?s competitive job market, your cover letter must be so compelling that the hiring manager immediately sees you as their future employee.
Mistake #4: Procrastination
This isn?t the time to sit back and let opportunities come to you. In today?s job market, many employers receive hundreds of responses to their ad, enabling them to choose a qualified candidate quickly. If you found the job announcement weeks after its initial post date, it may already be too late to apply, even if you are the perfect candidate. Stay on top of the process by searching job boards as frequently as possible, giving yourself plenty of time to assemble a polished application package before the close date.
Mistake #5: You?re distracted
When searching for a job, especially online, it?s easy to become sidetracked. Taking a few minutes here and there to check your personal e-mail or reading what your friends are posting on Facebook can drain more time than you think. Finding a job requires a minimum of three hours of uninterrupted time where your primary focus is on the job searching process. Set realistic daily goals and don?t get distracted until you have completed your tasks. Preparing quality, tailored resumes and cover letters for each job application requires concentration and dedication.
Mistake #6: Not following up after interviews
After every interview, send a thank-you note promptly. Use this opportunity to thank the interviewer for their time, state what you learned about the organization during the interview, and how your skills and experience will help contribute to the organization. Also, try to mention something about yourself to help the interviewer remember which job applicant you were during the interview process. You want to stand out from the competition and be memorable.
Don?t forget to follow up on applications that haven?t yet netted you an interview, too. Many job seekers make the mistake of sending their resume and never following up to make sure the right person has received it. Remember, the hiring process can take some time, and with the online application process, it?s easy to feel like your resume lost its way down a black hole. If you haven?t heard back from the employer after sending your application, don?t be afraid to call or e-mail to ask about the status of the job opening. Doing so could get your resume the attention it deserves. ? Originally posted on onTargetjobs by Matthew O?Donnell

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Whitney Houston will be remembered in a star-studded Grammy televised concert as well the release of a greatest hits album and a television reality series following the singer's family as they cope with her sudden death.
Celine Dion, Usher and Jennifer Hudson were the first performers to be announced by The Recording Academy on Thursday for "We Will Always Love You: A Grammy Salute To Whitney Houston" on CBS on November 16.
The one-hour event will be taped in Los Angeles on October 11 and will also feature interviews and footage with the late singer, as well as artists sharing their memories of her.
Houston's death at age 48 from accidental drowning in a bathtub at a Beverly Hills hotel on the eve of the Grammy awards in February shocked the music world. Authorities deemed her death was also a result of heart disease and cocaine use.
The televised special will coincide with the November 13 release of a compilation album, "I Will Always Love You - The Best of Whitney Houston," featuring 16 of Houston's best-known hits and two previously unreleased songs, including a new duet of "I Look To You" with R. Kelly, her RCA record label said.
Lifetime television network will also be airing a new series starting on October 17, "The Houstons: On Our Own." It documents Houston's 19-year-old daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown, sister-in-law and former manager Pat Houston and mother Cissy, as they deal with life after the singer's death.

"I knew that we were going to have quite a few animals coming in because we were new, but I was just surprised at the amount of animals that have come in with collars, well-groomed... I know they're somebody's pet," said Washington County Animal Shelter Director Shonna Harvey.
Harvey said the majority of the dogs and several cats belong to somebody.
"They're just, you know, sad, want to sleep a lot. We like to give them lots of attention and lots of treats but nothing like home," she says.
Many have collars and microchips, but out-of-date information is keeping them away from home.
"They're groomed, they have collars on, some of them have microchips, and the microchip information has not been updated so we're not able to get a hold of them... If it transfers ownership or if you move you just need to contact the company where the chip is from and just update that information through them," explains Harvey.
New identification tags are also important.
"I would say at least every six months just go have a new one made... If the animal has identification on, we're going to hold that animal for 10 days and do our best to try to find that owner," she says.
So Harvey wants to spread the word, and reunite owners with their faithful companions.
"We know that these are somebody's pets and we just want them to be able to come pick up their pets," says Harvey.
The shelter is currently working on creating a Facebook page so they can post pictures of lost pets that have been brought to the shelter, but as of now they have volunteers posting flyers.
If you lost your pet, Harvey said you can give the shelter a call or swing by.

Fall is officially here and we're closing in on the final quarter of 2012, a time when products usually get real or fade into the vapor forever. One that we've been waiting to hear about just got a little more real as the Verizon Media Server (VMS), which Big Red teased last December and promised in 2012, got a little mention in the company's latest comments to the FCC. While attempting to persuade the FCC to standardize an IP content interface and delay the December 2012 deadline, Verizon revealed that the rollout of its new product will begin in the coming months. The full feature set of this server is still unknown, but one interesting feature is its ability to stream multiple high-def stream simultaneously to 3rd party devices connected to your home network. Of course without a industry wide streaming standard -- again, like Verizon is requesting the FCC to ratify -- who knows exactly what devices could be in the mix.

MEDINAH, Ill. (AP) ? Sergio Garcia has never been so happy to lose a title.
Two years after a slump relegated him to the administrative role of vice captain at the Ryder Cup, Garcia is back where he belongs. His win at last month's Wyndham Championship earned him a spot on his sixth European team
"It was definitely a little bit of an inspiration to see your teammates playing and you not really being able to do much," Garcia said Wednesday. "So it definitely helped. I hope that it was one of the reasons why I'm here now."
Whatever the reasons, the Europeans are thrilled to have Garcia back out on the course.
Garcia may be a flop when it comes to the majors ? he pretty much owns that dreaded "Best Player Never to Win" title ? but he is perhaps the finest Ryder Cup player of his generation. With 16 points in his previous five appearances, the 32-year-old is already ninth on Europe's all-time list. He needs only nine more points to catch leader Nick Faldo, which looks feasible considering he won at least three matches in each of his first four appearances.
He has Europe's third-best point percentage, and has played twice as many matches (14-6-4) as the two guys in front of him. (Ian Poulter is 9-2-0 and Luke Donald is 8-2-1.) He has never lost in foursomes.
"He's very passionate about the Ryder Cup," said Lee Westwood, the only European with more experience. "He gets stuck in."
Two years ago, however, Garcia was simply stuck.
Devastated by a breakup with Greg Norman's daughter, his game unraveled. After winning The Players Championship in November 2008, he went 2? years without a top-three finish. It would be almost three years before he'd win again, on either the PGA or European tours. His ranking, a career-best No. 2 in 2009, plunged as low as 85.
He didn't come close to qualifying for the 2010 Ryder Cup, and he knew Colin Montgomerie couldn't afford to waste one of his captain's picks on someone whose game was in total shambles. So he asked Montgomerie if he could be part of his staff ? a job normally reserved for golfers on the back side of their careers, not one who had just celebrated his 30th birthday.
"I think that made him realize how important it is to be a player in the team," current European captain Jose Maria Olazabal said. "I remember his words when we were having a little chat a couple years ago, he said, 'If I knew this, I wouldn't have come' ? in the sense that he wanted to be playing."
Not that Garcia ever showed it. Garcia has the same passion for the Ryder Cup as Olazabal and Seve Ballesteros, and the event is one of the few occasions when he'll let down his guard and give a glimpse of the almost whimsical exuberance that made him so appealing as a teenager. He made the Energizer Bunny look like a slacker as he bounded around Celtic Manor, cheering on all of European teams, offering advice to the rookies and relaying messages to Montgomerie and the other assistants.
When Graeme McDowell made a 15-foot birdie on the 16th hole to beat Hunter Mahan and give Europe the Ryder Cup for the fourth time in five meetings, Garcia was as elated as if he'd delivered the winning point.
"We achieved what we wanted to achieve that week, so it was very positive," he said. "But at the same time, I'd rather be on this side than on the other one."
Especially at Medinah, the site of his spectacular showdown with Tiger Woods at the 1999 PGA Championship.
Just 19 then, he played with audacious abandon, ripping balls through trees, jumping into the air to see where his shots landed. He even dared to talk some smack to Woods, who was so fearsome in those days he could beat most of his opponents simply by showing up at the range. When a birdie on 13 got Garcia within three, he turned around, looked back at Woods on the tee and tugged his cap as if to say, "Your turn."
And who could forget the tree? When Garcia's tee shot on 16 sailed wide right and settled behind the knotted roots of a large oak tree, he grabbed a 6-iron, closed his eyes, swung and then sprinted out to the fairway to watch the ball land on the green.
Garcia wound up second to Woods, but he had left his mark on Medinah. When the PGA Championships returned seven years later, Garcia finished in a tie for third. He has finished third or better at only three other majors: the 2008 PGA in Oakland Hills (tie for second), the 2007 British Open at Carnoustie (second) and the 2005 U.S. Open at Pinehurst (tie for third).
"It has changed a little bit," Garcia said, referring to Medinah's No. 3 Course. "Personally, I liked it better in '99. I thought it was a better course."
After his stint as a spectator, however, Garcia really wouldn't care if they asked him to play in a parking lot.
So long as he's playing.
"I feel pretty good about my game," he said. "I'm hoping to play well, help my team and my teammates as possible and just try to get as many points as I can so we can achieve the goal we came here to do."

Today it?s time for the Top 5 Cardio exercises using nothing but your own bodyweight. Now I will say that sprints ? especially hill sprints or stair running are a great cardio workout but this is for people with limited space looking for some home exercise workout solutions or a good hotel room workout .
These are hard ? my clients hate most of them but I love em.
Give the cross-trainer or the treadmill the boot and do some real cardio. Best bit is you can do these anywhere because you only need your own bodyweight.

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Sept. 25, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --?Trilliant, a leading wireless communications provider, today announced it has been selected to provide broadband wireless networking equipment for Hometown Cable, a triple play service provider serving customers in Ohio.?
Hometown Cable received a $2.4 million grant from the Department of Agriculture's Rural Utilities Services (RUS) program, part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), to expand rural broadband access in its service territory. Trilliant's SkyPilot wireless broadband network will help reach customers who have been under-served or un-served due to distance and challenging terrain. The grant will fund wireless network equipment as well as create new jobs for project management and installation.
Hometown Cable recently acquired g-Wireless, a broadband Internet service provider. g-Wireless has an existing SkyPilot network that will be expanded for Hometown Cable's needs. "The reliable performance of our existing network made Trilliant's SkyPilot mesh network a logical choice for expansion," said Bill Kessler, project engineer and manager of Hometown Cable. "Trilliant's SkyPilot mesh technology does an exceptional job overcoming the challenges of our geography and delivering the throughput we need over long distances. The ease of deployment and operation is an additional benefit of Trilliant's SkyPilot solution that impacted our decision."
"Rural broadband initiatives continue to be important for many service providers across the country," said Arnie Liepa, senior vice president of channel businesses at Trilliant. "Trilliant's SkyPilot solution already has proven success for these challenging deployments and we are proud that Hometown Cable has selected us for their project."
WAV Distribution, in partnership with Moonblink Communications, will be providing the equipment and logistic services for the project. The first phase of the project will involve installation of network gateways, extenders and connectors to deliver wireless Internet access to residential and business customers as well as rural schools. The SkyPilot Element Management System (EMS) software will be utilized for provisioning, configuration and overall network management.
"As one of the first distributors to embrace wireless broadband technologies, WAV is proud to be supplying Moonblink and ultimately Hometown Cable with Trilliant's high performing wireless broadband platform to give under-served areas the opportunity to receive wireless Internet service," said Zach Hubeck, sales and marketing director at WAV.

HousingWire tells MHProNews the shadow inventory dropped by 1.2 million troubled mortgages in the first six months of 2012. Although those numbers could double by the end of the year, four million underwater loans would remain, down from a high of six million in 2010. According to JPMorgan Chase, of the 1.2 million, 335,000 were short sales, 420,000 were loan modifications and 470,000 in REO (real estate owned) sold. In addition, Chase says the $25 billion settlement with the five largest banks could result in 100,000 loan modifications averaging $100,000 reductions for each loan. Only 7,000 were finalized through June, but the banks say they increased efforts in June. As we reported in a previous story Sept. 10, 2012, the payments for one couple who received a loan modification dropped $229 a month.

It sounds good. And it?s relatively true; for most people, our strongest friendships tend to be more static than our romantic relationships, particularly when we?re younger and unmarried.?But lately, I?ve come to question these alleged nuggets of ?wisdom.? And here?s why:
1.?As we get older, it becomes more practical to consider our ambitions and long-term goals comprehensively versus in a linear fashion. This means that instead of tossing out a relationship for a promotion overseas, or choosing your long time homegirl over your potential life partner, consider how each decision fits into your overall plan for your life.
Let?s consider Rachel and Walter, a hypothetical case study. Rachel and Walter have been seriously dating for 2 years. Rachel is 28 and Walter is 32 and while they certainly agree that they eventually want to have a family and settle down, they haven?t made a formal commitment to each other just yet. Rachel is offered a promotion within her company that would require her to move across the country. It isn?t necessarily a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and there will be probably be other promotion opportunities in the area, but it is a great one and it?s significantly closer to her family. Rachel and Walter both have had negative experiences with long-distance relationships and aren't interested in going down that road. I believe the decision to take a new career with relocation should be based on a variety of things including the proximity to her family, the impact of the salary/new role in her quality of life. Furthermore, I would argue that Rachel should also consider her desire to have a family. She should consider how badly she wants to develop a relationship with Walter that has promise to lead to the family they both want. It?s a fair consideration and she shouldn?t be judged harshly for including her plans with him in her decision. Interestingly enough, a hard lesson many Type A?s and voracious planners grudgingly learn is: our lives don?t proceed steadily along in a straight line, like moving walkways in an airport. Sure, there are outliers. Beyonc? was able to achieve immense success, then love, and then the adorable Blue Ivy. Michelle Obama even did what many of us aspire to do; she completed her extensive education, landed a great job, and then found love as well, culminating with a not too shabby title as First Lady of the United States. While Beyonc? and Michelle are certainly admirable, for most people, life doesn?t occur in a Point A, then B, then C fashion. Many of us complete our education in parts, in between jobs and career changes, and many of us find love all throughout the process; the beginning, the middle, or the end. There?s nothing wrong with that. Instead of trying to create a divine order in which you focus primarily on one goal at a time, consider how each of the pieces can fit together. My friend sheepishly crossed schools in California off her list so she could be close to the man who makes her smile in Washington, DC. Is Georgetown such a bad alternative to USC? I don?t think so.? 2. When you are in a committed relationship with a sane person who legitimately has your best interest at heart, that person will only ask you to choose if he or she has good reason. One of my good friends used to lament that whenever her boyfriend was with one of his close female friends, he tended to drink more, smoke weed, and stay out later. When he?d stumble home, it wasn?t his homegirl that had to deal with his sour breath, the illegal army green flakes on his jacket, and the lingering hangover; it was his girlfriend. When she told him that she?d had ?enough,? and that he?d need to regulate his behavior around said homegirl or just not hang with her at all, her boyfriend blew up at her for making her ?choose.? I won?t tell you what happened in the end, but to me, it seems as though that was ?good reason.? The caveat is that of course, there are people out there who are jealous, suspicious, and irrational. They don?t like you spending time with your friends; they don?t like that something or someone else is making you happy. These zany folks, don?t represent everyone and should be avoided anyway. Your true friends know that your household is peaceful when you alternate the Thursday night pick-up basketball games with date night every other week. They understand. In conclusion, I?m not suggesting that a relationship should take precedence over every other consideration in your life. I do however, think it is an important consideration and that there is absolutely nothing wrong in putting it on equal bearing, and in many cases, higher bearing than other considerations. In the end, it?s YOUR life. You decide what matters to you most, and if being close to your boyfriend is more important than attending a school miles away, then act on that! It's perfectly ok.?**
Thoughts? Have you ever felt compelled to choose between a career or a significant other? Have your friends ever accused you of unfairly choosing the significant other over them? Do you think these old adages have more value than I?m giving them credit for? Let me know!Source: http://www.awordorthree.com/2012/09/choosing-your-boo-over-your-friends-or.html

Aluminum producer Alcoa and the Alcoa Foundation will invest $2 million to help fund a national initiative with Keep America Beautiful aimed at increasing the US recycling rate of aluminum, plastic, glass and paper to 75 percent by 2015.
Alcoa, Alcoa Foundation and Keep America Beautiful made the announcement today at the Clinton Global Initiative annual meeting.
The Action to Accelerate Recycling commitment incorporates initiatives that aim to generate awareness, create incentives and provide recycling access and infrastructure. Increasing the US recycling rate to 75 percent ? which, for beverage cans, has been an Alcoa goal since 2008 ? would generate close to 300 additional tons of recycled content, resulting in the avoidance of more than 2,850 tons of greenhouse gas emissions, Alcoa said.
Alcoa will help fund several smaller programs under the broader Action to Accelerate Recycling initiative, including the Pass the Can app, in which Alcoa Foundation will donate $1 (up to $75,000) for every virtual can passed to KAB, International Union for Conservation of Nature and Planet Ark.
The Action to Accelerate Recycling commitment includes funding and support for the Small Steps, Big Wins Campus Challenge, aimed at encouraging students to participate in environmental actions; DoSomething.org, a youth-led aluminum recycling drive in the US; Tailgate Recycling, a program created by Ohio State University, the University of Tennessee, Purdue University and Clemson University to encourage fans to recycle in parking lots during football season; and Pennsylvania Resources Council, a program to educate consumers about the recyclability of pet food cans and create an easily replicated model for collecting cans.
Keep America Beautiful will drive several initiatives as well, including a plan to solicit industry to pledge a 10 percent increase in the recycling of aluminum, paper, plastic and glass in the workplace through variety of programs; a multimedia campaign to reach 200 million people; and State Fairs Recycling Initiative, which aims to provide recycling access and develop best practices in four to six underserved public venues with funding from Alcoa.
Alcoa bought out partner Novelis and took control of Evermore Recycling, the world?s biggest purchaser of recycled cans, at the end of August. Evermore Recycling is now a part of Alcoa?s Global Packaging group and will continue to be based in Nashville, Tenn.

In addition to attracting start-ups, PepsiCo10 Brazil will focus on engaging tech-savvy Millennials by inviting submissions from university students across Brazil. Business sustainability is included among the four submission categories, joining Entertainment, Mobile and Retail -- reinforcing the priorities and interests for PepsiCo's Brazil business.??
Launched in 2010, the inaugural PepsiCo10 US received more than 500 submissions from budding entrepreneurs that gave PepsiCo an early look at technology trends such as social TV, experience-based gaming, crowd-sourced content creation, and pay-at-the-table digital promotion. In 2011 the momentum continued with PepsiCo10 Europe, attracting applicants from start-ups in 18 countries and resulting in marketing pilots with billion-dollar PepsiCo brands like Doritos, Quaker, Walkers and Pepsi MAX.
PepsiCo10 Brazil is kicking off the submission process with a reception and panel at Social Media Week Sao Paolo, which begins today and runs through September 27. From September 2012 to June 2013, the program will select 10 entrepreneurs or university students in two phases to implement marketing programs with leading global and local PepsiCo brands, among them TODDY?, DORITOS?, RUFFLES?, PEPSI?, QUAKER? and H2OH!?, across four categories: Entertainment, Mobile, Retail and Sustainability. Entrepreneurs can apply for the Fall 2012 phase through October 27, 2012 via a tab on PepsiCo Brazil's Facebook page at www.facebook.com/pepsicobrasil. For more information visit PepsiCo10.com.
"Brazil is a great market to run the PepsiCo10 program. Our brands are recognized for their imaginative and surprising programs that reach consumers in unexpected ways, like crowd-sourcing the next product flavor or involving them in a community activity," said Nora Mirazon, Consumer Engagement Officer at PepsiCo Brazil. "PepsiCo10 offers an amazing opportunity to accelerate our innovation process while boosting engagement with consumers in this key market."
Cristiana Gomes, Director of Human Resources at PepsiCo Brazil, added, "Along with the search for new ideas, PepsiCo10 supports our strategy of attracting and retaining top talent by giving us a chance to communicate with some of the brightest and most creative young Brazilian minds."
"We are excited to build the PepsiCo10 roster in Brazil, a growth engine for PepsiCo and a nation brimming with innovative ideas and creativity," said Josh Karpf, Director of Digital Media at PepsiCo. How it works:
Start-up companies and students can submit online applications through the PepsiCo Brazil Facebook page at www.facebook.com/pepsicobrasil from September 24, 2012, through October 27, 2012, in one of four categories: Entertainment, Mobile, Retail and Sustainability.? During Phase One of the program ? September to December 2012 ? judges will select five start-ups to activate marketing pilots? followed by another five selections in Phase Two ? January to June 2013. Pilot programs will be conducted with brands TODDY?, DORITOS?, PEPSI?, H2OH!? and GATORADE? in Phase One and TODDYNHO?, QUAKER?, RUFFLES?, PEPSI? and LIPTON? in Phase Two. Proposals are evaluated on a rolling timeline based on a variety of factors, including an applicant's ability to partner with PepsiCo brands and commercial viability. Judges will include executive leadership from PepsiCo, venture capital firm Highland Capital, alongside agency partners iThink, Omnicom and local digital influencers. The PepsiCo10 Brazil winners (up to two travelers per winning submission) will be offered an all-expenses paid trip to New York City in 2013 for the opportunity to meet with PepsiCo brand marketers and network with US-based digital influencers. Partnerships and pilots for Phase One and Phase Two will begin in 2013.

Iranians have been having trouble accessing YouTube, Gmail and other Google services for some time now, but their digital world may be growing even smaller -- Iran announced today that it plans to shuffle citizens onto its own domestic version of the web. Reuters reports that officials plan to connect citizens to the national information network that's currently in use at government agencies. Iran hopes to complete the transition by March of next year, and is already taking steps to isolate its population from certain international services. "Google and Gmail will be filtered throughout the country until further notice," an Iranian official added, noting that the ban would commence in "a few hours."
Some locals, such as the Iranian Students' News Agency, are attributing the ban to recent protests sparked by a trailer for an anti-Islamic film on YouTube called Innocence of Muslims, but the government has made no official comment on the reason behind the ban. The state isn't clear on the fate of the global internet in Iran, either -- although it has talked about creating an isolated national network before. Here's hoping the new network will be a compliment to the Persian web, and not a substitute.
